Jonathan Williams

Work

My current work is with the gamma-ray spectroscopy group at TRIUMF in Vancouver, where I help to maintain the TIGRESS array and provide technical support for nuclear structure and astrophysics experiments using it. My own experiments have used TIGRESS with the TIP device and charged particle detectors to investigate the structure of intermediate mass nuclei produced in fusion-evaporation reactions.

Previously, my graduate studies at the Simon Fraser University (SFU) Department of Chemistry focused on studies of nuclear structure, detection systems, and radiation safety.

My MSc Thesis focused on licensing and development of a neutron generator facility at SFU.

My PhD Thesis focused on gamma-ray spectroscopy and Doppler shift lifetime measurements in 22Ne and 28Mg, neutron-rich nuclei in the sd shell.

What am I working on right now?

I'm studying cross-shell excitations in 32Si and 29Al, building on previous work in 28Mg. Initial results on 32Si have been published here.

I'm also planning to measure lifetimes of excited states in the N=Z nucleus 60Zn.
